How to Choose the Right Pipe for Your Needs
Pick by job, not by price. Hot water needs CPVC, which takes 93°C without softening. Cold supply runs on UPVC or OPVC. Drainage needs SWR with anti-rodent protection. Buried mains call for HDPE.
Then check three things: pressure rating for the head in your building, diameter for the flow you need, and material certification if the line carries drinking water. Yes. HotX CPVC Plus and CoolX UPVC Plus use virgin food-grade compounds and carry antimicrobial protection inside the bore. UltraX OPVC ships 100% lead free. All three meet the material standards required for potable supply in homes and commercial buildings.
Testing covers hydrostatic pressure, impact resistance, thermal cycling and UV exposure against the temperature swings and hard water Indian systems face. Every UltraX OPVC length is hydro tested individually, a practice no other Indian manufacturer runs at 100%.
PVC stands for Polyvinyl Chloride. It is a rigid thermoplastic used widely in cold water supply, drainage and conduit work because it resists corrosion, weighs little and installs with solvent cement rather than welding equipment.
UPVC stands for Unplasticised Polyvinyl Chloride. It is a rigid form of PVC made without plasticisers, used for cold water supply, drainage and chemical lines. It resists corrosion but is not suitable for hot water.
CPVC stands for Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride. Extra chlorine lets it withstand about 93°C, making it suitable for both hot and cold water supply in homes, hospitals and hotels.
HDPE stands for High-Density Polyethylene. It is a tough, flexible polymer used for buried mains, industrial lines and irrigation, and is joined by fusion for leak-free joints.
PVC-O is molecularly oriented PVC. Aligning the molecular structure during manufacture boosts burst strength and impact resistance, making it ideal for high-pressure water distribution. Sintex UltraX is a PVC-O pipe.
MLCP stands for Multilayer Composite Pipe, layers of cross-linked polyethylene bonded to an aluminium core. It flexes around corners with fewer joints and carries hot and cold water. Sintex HotX Pro is an MLCP.
